"Dear Mom" is a pop ballad performed by Girls' Generation sung in Korean. The song was included on their first extended play* (mini album), "Gee" which was digitally released on January 5, 2009 under the record label S.M. Entertainment. The song was composed by Kim Tae Sung, while the lyrics were composed by his girlfriend singer Ivy, though she used the pen name "The Lighthouse" in the album credits. - source Wiki

The song is is like an "Achilles' Heel" for the girls as it, almost always, tend to evoke strong emotions and longing to be with their family, especially their moms, since they were very often separated for long periods of time during the girls' 3 to 7 years' training away from home prior to their debut as Girls' Generation; while they are still teenagers with the eldest member being 18 when the group debut in August 2007.

"Instead of performing Gee like they have the previous weeks on InKiGaYo, SNSD decided to perform their song, Dear Mom. On stage, each member showed a picture of themselves as a child with their mothers, sending a thank you message to their moms. Although most the members teared up a little, SooYoung and TaeYeon cried so much during this performance that they had to stop singing for a while. The fans who were watching, not just SNSD fans but everyone, cried along as they began to think of their mothers. It wasn't a performance just based on listening to the music, but it was also feeling the music with your heart." - Soompi.com, March 2, 2009.

"An extended play (EP) is a musical recording that contains more music than a single, but is usually too short to qualify as a full studio album or LP. The term EP originally referred to specific types of vinyl records other than 78 rpm standard play (SP) records and LP records, but it is now applied to mid-length Compact Discs and music downloads as well. In the United Kingdom, the Official Chart Company defines a boundary between EP and album classification at 25 minutes of length or four tracks (not counting alternative versions of featured songs, if present)." - Wiki
